Company Interior Design – Heritage House

At Turnkey Interiors, we believe in company interior design that goes beyond functionality – it’s about creating an environment that fosters comfort, healing, and accessibility. For the Breast Care Centre of Excellence (BCCE) at Miller House, we took on the challenge of transforming a 100-year-old heritage building into a modern, welcoming clinic, all while preserving its historical charm. This project exemplifies our commitment to designing spaces that not only serve a practical purpose but also contribute to the emotional well-being of the people who use them.

Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future
The design focused on maintaining the unique characteristics of the century-old building while ensuring it met the modern requirements of a healthcare facility. We preserved original elements such as the Oregon pine floors, pressed steel ceilings, and lead-framed stained-glass windows, giving the space a warm, timeless atmosphere. These features were lovingly refurbished and enhanced to blend seamlessly with the new, contemporary additions, such as accessible bathrooms and a wheelchair ramp, designed to be both functional and in keeping with the heritage of the building.

Creating a Comforting and Accessible Environment
The design was centred around patient well-being, aiming to create a soothing, peaceful environment for those undergoing treatment. Every element was carefully considered to balance aesthetics with accessibility, ensuring that all patients, including those with mobility impairments, could navigate the space comfortably. The accessible toilet and wheelchair ramp were incorporated as modern additions that complement the existing structure, allowing the facility to serve its purpose without compromising the integrity of the historic property.

Thoughtful Space Planning for Healing and Comfort
The layout was designed to support both privacy and social interaction, creating a space that promotes healing and fosters a sense of community. The facility includes a reception area, waiting spaces, consultation rooms, a wound care treatment area, and staff facilities, all laid out to provide a comfortable flow of movement while maintaining privacy where necessary. The waiting area, converted from an old garage, was transformed into a bright, welcoming space where patients can relax before their consultations. Each space was carefully planned to ensure it met the practical needs of the clinic while also offering a peaceful environment for patients and staff.

Design Aesthetics
The design aesthetic was centred on creating a calming atmosphere, with light colours, natural materials, and an emphasis on natural light. The design integrates elements that foster a sense of tranquillity, with the natural light flooding the space and biophilic design principles enhancing the environment. The preservation of original materials like the stained-glass windows and Oregon pine floors adds warmth and character, ensuring that the space feels inviting and serene for patients and staff alike.

Outcome
This project is a testament to our ability to blend the past with the present, creating a space that not only serves the practical needs of a healthcare facility but also provides a comforting, supportive environment for patients. The thoughtful integration of modern amenities with the preservation of historical features demonstrates our commitment to creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
